Barcelona raises controversy over Xavi’s future

Barcelona Vice President Rafa Yuste commented on the future of Xavi Hernandez, coach of the Catalan team, after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Barcelona advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after eliminating Napoli, with a score of 4-2 on aggregate.

Xavi had confirmed his departure from Barcelona after the end of the current season, following the team’s loss of the Spanish Super Cup and the Spanish Cup, and the diminishing chances of maintaining the La Liga title.

Yuste said, in statements highlighted by the Catalan newspaper “Sport”: “I respect Xavi and his decision. He knows what I am thinking, and we will see what happens.”

Regarding the names proposed for Barcelona’s leadership, Yuste refused to comment and said: “I really like Xavi Hernandez.”

Yusti praised young players such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Kubarci, saying: “These youngsters are an example of the great work the academy is doing.”

He added: “We are grateful to Xavi and his assistants for their trust in the young players, who are between 16 and 17 years old. They made us enjoy this way.”

He concluded: “It was a special night for all of us. Qualifying for the quarter-finals was a goal that had been set. It is very important for the club.”
